A total of 279 suspects were shot dead by the police and 147 detainees died in custody from 2000 to 2009, said Home Ministry Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said this in his written reply to M. Manogaran (DAP - Teluk Intan) in Parliament on Monday.
Manogaran had asked for the total number of suspects shot dead or injured by the police and detainees who died in detention centres for the period.
