Nightmare for woman over Internet nude pics

Stress and fear.

Those are the feelings haunting a woman since she received threats from her ex-boyfriend who posted nude photos and video clips of her on the Internet.

The victim, known as Tan, 25, said she only realised what he had done after being informed by former college mates last week.

Tan, who had pursued a Science degree at a college in Australia, said she got to know her ex-boyfriend, a Hong Kong national, during the four years they studied together in the same college.
However, their relationship ended in September last year.

Following her graduation, Tan returned to Malaysia, but her life was disrupted after college mates contacted her and asked about several nude video clips of her, which had been circulated by e-mail.

What was even more shocking and embarrassing was the fact that her ex-boyfriend sent the photos to her parents.

Tan now suffers from stress and extreme fear caused by her ex-boyfriend’s actions and frequent calls harassing her.

“He could not accept my decision to end the relationship and wanted an explanation,” she told a news conference at MCA’s Public Complaints Bureau yesterday.

The bureau’s chief Datuk Michael Chong said it had received 23 similar cases since 2006 and that 20 of them involved women.

He said the bureau received reports of six such cases from January to June this year alone, and added that it feared the matter would persist although highlighted by the media many times.
